Bulger eager to improve his performance

Backup quarterback Marc Bulger did not enjoy the kind of debut he was hoping for.

Bulger, who signed a one-year, $3.8 million deal with the Ravens, completed 5-of-12 passes for 67 yards, was sacked once, lost a fumble, and finished with a 60.1 passer rating in Thursday night's 17-12 win against the Carolina Panthers.

Bulger made a couple nice passes, but his fumble nearly cost the team its 10-3 lead in the second quarter. Only a forced fumble caused by strong safety Haruki Nakamura and a recovery by linebacker Antwan Barnes at the Ravens' 1-yard line prevented further damage.

"Obviously, I don't want to turn the ball over and put our defense in a situation like that," Bulger said. "They bailed me out, and I'm just glad I came back and moved the ball. You want to hit your sights and your hots and things like that, but I got my feet wet a little bit. So hopefully, I just keep getting better every week."
