The Sun's offseason power rankings (Nos. 1-8)

The Sun will post its offseason power rankings in four parts this week. These are the teams ranking from No. 1 to No. 8:

1. Indianapolis: The Colts were the AFC's best team last season despite being hit hard by injuries. When healthy, Indianapolis is clearly the class of the league.

2. New Orleans: Perhaps the biggest challenge for the Saints is handling the Super Bowl hangover. There is no doubt that Drew Brees will keep this offense at a high level.

3. Green Bay: Only one starter is missing from a Packers team that won seven of its final eight games to secure a wild-card spot.

4. Ravens: A strong offseason (WR Anquan Boldin, WR Donte’ Stallworth, DL Cory Redding and K Shayne Graham) has made them one of the Super Bowl favorites.

5. Minnesota: Everyone expects Brett Favre to return because the Vikings are a team that has unfinished business after last season's NFC championship game.

6. N.Y. Jets: Rex Ryan has his team loaded for a championship run. The Jets signed RB LaDanian Tomlinson and DE Jason Taylor and traded for WR Santonio Holmes and CB Antonio Cromartie.

7. San Diego: Philip Rivers' offense received a major boost when the Chargers drafted RB Ryan Matthews, who should win offensive rookie of the year.

8. Dallas: The Cowboys should win the NFC East despite a hole at left tackle and a tough schedule.

Note: The Sun's offseason rankings are a collective effort of staff writers Jamison Hensley, Ken Murray and Edward Lee. The comments are by Jamison Hensley.
