Pittsburgh's Talbot badmouths Ovechkin

Pittsburgh Penguins center Max Talbot is a third-line grinder. He stars in indescribable car dealership commercials. He's the guy who scored two goals in Game 7 of the 2009 Stanley Cup finals.

Oh, and Talbot just so happens to think Capitals superstar Alex Ovechkin {photo by AP} is "a real douche."

"I just hate the guy," Max Talbot told Pittsburgh radio station 105.9 The X this morning.

Talbot was appearing on the station to promote the 2011 Winter Classic. The Penguins will host the Capitals on New Year's Day on the frozen tundra of Heinz Field. (Well, technically it's on a frozen rink on the frozen tundra of Heinz Field.)

You don't care about right now. You want to know what's up with Talbot's beef. Here's how he explained it:

"I was actually at the NHL Awards last summer with [teammate Evgeni] Malkin, and we brought the Stanley Cup over there after the season," Talbot said. "Malkin knew Ovechkin, and introduced me to him, and the first impression wasn't great. I'm not really going to say what happened, but I'm like, 'OK, this guy is a real douche.'"

So take that however you want. It certainly would have been a bigger story had Sidney Crosby said it, but it still adds a little more fuel to hockey's hottest rivalry.

Later in the day Tuesday, Talbot, Crosby and fellow Penguins forward Pascal Dupuis — and Capitals Mike Knuble and Dave Steckel — tried to shoot pucks through the field goal uprights at Heinz Field. Check it out:
