Last Tuesday morning as the reckless coverage of the firing of USDA official Shirley Sherrod kicked into high gear, I lamented the sorry kinds of conversation about race we were now having with Internet and cable TV driving the discussion -- rather than legacy media with their standards of verification, reporting, context and balance. Now comes a Pew report that quantifies to some extent the kind of conversation we are having about race these days. It is not something we should be proud of.
