Kiper chimes in on Ravens' offseason

Mel Kiper Jr. has sweet hair. He is a Maryland native. And he knows a thing or two about football. The NFL draft is Kiper's forte, of course, and I was convinced that since April's meat market, he had spent every waking hour watching tape of 2011 draft hopefuls. But Kiper took a break to evaluate the offseasons of every NFL team for ESPN.

When it came to the Ravens, Kiper wrote that he liked what the team did at wide receiver during the offseason, but felt they didn't do enough to shore up their secondary. I know what you're thinking: Grocery store cashiers, drunk bar patrons, your coworker Terry and other lesser-known experts have been saying the same thing for months. But they're not hiding a big, honking football brain underneath a killer coif like Mel.

Kiper said that though the Ravens had an "exceptional" draft, their most significant acquisition was wide receiver Anquan Boldin.

The pass defense was Kiper's biggest question mark for the Ravens. Kiper {photo by The Baltimore Sun} said he was surprised they didn't select a cornerback at some point in the draft. He then questioned their pass rush, too.

Kiper also gave an early prediction for each team's 2011 first-round pick. He said the Ravens could take "physical" Nebraska cornerback Prince Amukamara. Commence Google searching now.
