Thank goodness for the satirical genius of Jon Stewart. If you haven't already done so, please check out this segment on the Shirley Sherrod incident that threw the media and the White House for such a loop last week that it is still being sorted -- and not so successfully with so many ideologues refusing to acknowledge the facts of who said what and when.
Please pay special attention to what Stewart says about the claim by NAACP President Ben Jealous that he was "snookered" by Fox News. Savor Stewart's analysis of the behavior of President Obama and his administration.
And Stewart's analysis of what right-wing provocateur Andrew Brietbart called the "Institutional Left" is just plain fabulous. Leave it to Stewart to find the real "teachable moments," to use a favored and phony White House term, in this mess.

I suspect that heads of folks all over the "Institutional Left" are exploding as they try to reconcile admiration for Stewart with the intellectual beatdown he deliverrf in this Monday night video. What do you think? And I would really love to hear from folks who thought this was all about the alleged sins of Fox News. In 2008 during the heat of the presidential election, I wrote that Stewart had perhaps become the most effective media critic in the country -- in part, because he say things many believe, but mainstream critics cannot say due to standards and conventions of the venues in which they publish or broadcast. After this segment, I think I am willing to delete the "perhaps" from the statement about this comedian's performance as media critic.
