It appears O.J. Mayo and former Terps star Greivis Vasquez — both cocky, trigger-happy combo guards — have found common ground in Las Vegas. The two teamed up last night in the Memphis Grizzlies' 89-85 win against the Atlanta Hawks in the NBA Summer League. It was Vasquez's unofficial Grizzlies debut.

Mayo, a former lottery pick entering his third season in the NBA, wants to play more at point guard, which explains why a player of his ilk was running with rookies and young journeymen. And apparently he clicked with Vasquez, who scored two points with four assists.

Afterward, Mayo compared his new Venezuelan teammate to himself, saying that he was fan of Vasquez's attitude.

"[Vasquez] is the type of player I am," Mayo told The Las Vegas Sun. "Sometimes, the perception is arrogant or cocky but it's just a chip on the shoulder. It's a guy who wants to compete and win and I know where he's coming from."

Greivis? Cocky? Never.

Vasquez {photo, above, by AP} said he envisions Mayo being one of his mentors in his rookie season.

"We are going to grow together," Vasquez said. "We are going to play together at some points and this is just Summer League where we're trying to figure some things out."

No word on whether Vasquez has taught Mayo "the Greivis Shimmy" yet. I'll keep you posted.
