Amazon Kindle books outselling hardcovers

Readers are becoming more wired.

Amazon.com said this week that sales of its electronic Kindle books are outselling hardcover books.

The online shopping site said the sales could have been helped by a drop in the price of the Kindle from $259 to $189.

In the last three months, Amazon has sold 143 Kindle books for every 100 hardcover books. It sold three times as many Kindle books in the first half of this year, compared to the same time last year. Amazon has sold Kindle books for 33 months and hardcover books for 15 years.

For you old-fashioned types, book sells also continue to grow, but it does leave me to wonder what the fate of the book is. And for that matter, libraries too.

I still prefer to hold a book in my hand and turn the pages. Maybe it's the newspaper girl in me.

What about others? What do you prefer? Kindle or Book?
