Ocean City offering free iPhone app for beachgoers

Ocean City is launching a free iPhone app today, offering visitors to the beach or travelers who want to plan a shore trip a mobile option for finding information on restaurants, lodging, events, entertainment, promotions, deals and more. The town's tourism officials say the iPhone app will have the largest selection of deals and discounts currently available. It will also sync up with Google maps to locate attractions, restaurants, etc.

The Ocean City app was created by an Owings Mills company - MGH - and OC says the app will be available in versions for Blackberry and Android in the near future.

Earlier this spring, an app was launched for Rehoboth Beach, too. It's called Rehoboth in My Pocket and does similar things, however two big differences: It's not an official app from the town and it's not free. Costs $3.99. Doesn't make it better or worse and since I haven't had a chance to give the OC app a spin yet, I can't compare the two. But I think the fact that the OC app is free will give it more users.

I'll have a review of the OC app soon and if you have an iPhone and download the app, let me know what you think.
