Lycanthropy and vampire studies invade a hallowed hall of science when "Twilight Saga: Eclipse" enters the Maryland Science Center's St. John's Properties IMAX theater at the witching hour of midnight on Wednesday, June 30, complete with exclusive 3-D IMAX footage.

Having enjoyed great success with family fairy tales like the current tenant, "Shrek Forever After," the IMAX theater's bookers are banking that they can draw crowds with a darker fantasy aimed at high school and college students. A spokesman emailed me yesterday, ""IMAX screens continue to contribute a greater percentage of box office revenue per screen than convention theaters.  Based on audience traffic, the Maryland Science Center appears to be a big contributor."

In "Twilight Saga: Eclipse," potential war between vampires and werewolves pivots on heroine Bella Swan's love for vampire Edward Cullen and deep regard for werewolf Jacob Black. Heartthrob Robert Pattinson once again plays Robert, with Kristin Stewart and Taylor Lautner as Bella and Jacob (above).

Have you been following the series? (I'll have to catch up to the second episode myself.) Do you have high hopes for this third movie? And will you be planning to see it in IMAX?

"Twilight Saga: Eclipse" will screen daily at the Maryland Science Center, 601 Light Street at Baltimore’s Inner Harbor. For information and tickets, visit www.marylandsciencecenter.org or call the 24-Hour Information Line, 410-685-5225.
