O's up 2-1 through top 6; Scott still struggling

It's been another solid pitching performance so far from Orioles veteran Kevin Millwood. He has held the Red Sox to one run through six with the one run scoring on Jason Varitek's fifth-inning homer to right.

While he continues to not get much run support, he is getting plenty of defensive help. Catcher Craig Tatum, getting a rare start, has made a couple of really nice plays. Center fielder Adam Jones caught Varitek's second-inning drive right at the wall. And third baseman Miguel Tejada made a nice play to retire Marco Scutaro in the sixth.

The problem is he has been given so little margin for error. To this point, Millwood has received just 15 runs of support in his six starts and the Orioles have scored just 11 runs while he has been in the game.

On another note, designated hitter Luke Scott is 0-for-3 with two strikeouts and a groundout to the pitcher. Those hoping that home run Saturday would get him going might have to wait. Since the All-Star break last season, Scott is hitting .203. I think it goes without saying that won't cut it from a designated hitter.
