More favorite films, 41-60, 'Innocents" to 'Metropolis'

The next installment of my 115 favorite films (in alphabetical order) has just been added to the photo gallery, along with my explanations for the picks. The colleagues who put the gallery together tell me they've already added Philip Kaufman's version of "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" and Walter Hill's rendition of the Jesse James saga, "The Long Riders," to their Netflix lists. Anyone who wonders why moviemakers revere Roman Polanski as an artist should check out his "Knife in the Water," one of the best feature debuts in movie history. A new, fully restored version of favorite film #60, Fritz Lang's "Metropolis," opens at the Film Forum in New York this week. Let's hope it comes to Baltimore soon. (The previous "Metropolis" restoration played at the Senator.)
