Minor league game recaps -- May 3

Score: Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees 6, Norfolk Tides 3 (Box score)

Recap: In his first start since his no-hitter, Chris Tillman allowed two runs and eight hits in five innings as the Tides suffered a 6-3 loss at Harbor Park.

The 22-year-old right-hander struck out three batters, issued two walks and threw a wild pitch. Tillman threw 60 of his 92 pitches for strikes, but didn't factor in the decision.

Norfolk relief pitcher Pedro Viola (0-1) was charged with four runs and four hits in 2/3 of an inning, raising his season ERA to 18.90 in four games (three with the Tides).

Tides center fielder Corey Patterson was 4-for-5 in the loss, and third baseman Josh Bell added two hits and an RBI.

Score: Bowie Baysox 5, Harrisburg Senators 3 (Box score)

Recap: The Baysox snapped an eight-game losing streak with a 5-3 win over Harrisburg.

Bowie first baseman Joel Guzman collected a pair of doubles and an RBI, while left fielder Tyler Henson added two hits and a run scored.

Baysox starting pitcher Tim Bascom allowed three runs and six hits in six innings, but he didn't factor in the decision. The 25-year-old right-hander struck out two batters and issued one walk.

Relief pitcher Pat Egan (2-0) tossed three scoreless innings, holding the Senators to one hit, to earn his second victory for the Baysox.

In eight appearances this season, Egan has only allowed one run and six hits in 16 2/3 innings.

Score: Frederick Keys 6, Winston-Salem Dash 5 (Box score)

Recap: The Keys rallied from a five-run deficit with six unanswered runs to sneak away with a 6-5 victory over Winston-Salem at Harry Grove Stadium.

Frederick first baseman Joe Mahoney was 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored, and center fielder Xavier Avery added two RBIs.

Keys second baseman L.J. Hoes and right fielder Jacob Julius each collected two hits, and third baseman Buck Britton had an RBI.

Starting pitcher Cole McCurry was charged with five runs (four earned) and six hits in 3 2/3 innings for the Keys, but he also struck out seven batters.

Frederick relief pitcher Raul Rivero (1-1) tossed 3 1/3 scoreless frames to earn the win, while closer Brandon Cooney blanked Winston-Salem in the ninth inning for his third save of the season.

Frederick overcame four errors in the win, including two by shortstop Greg Miclat.

Score: Delmarva Shorebirds 2, Savannah Sand Gnats 1, 13 innings (Box score)

Recap: Shortstop Gary Helmick hit an RBI single with two outs in the bottom of the 13th inning to lead Delmarva to a 2-1 victory over Savannah at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium.

Delmarva left fielder Michael Planeta hit two triples and scored the winning run, while second baseman Tyler Kelly added a single, a triple and a run scored.

Starting pitcher Jesse Beal allowed one unearned run and six hits in six innings for Delmarva, but he didn't factor in the decision. Shorebirds relief pitcher Nicholas Haughian (2-0) tossed one scoreless inning to earn the win.

Shorebirds starting shortstop Garabez Rosa left the game in the top of the third due to an injury that the Minor League Baseball game recap called "an injured head." I'll provide more details on the injury as I get them. In the meantime, if anyone attended the game, feel free to comment below.

Third baseman Tyler Kolodny committed three errors in the game for Delmarva, raising his season total to 11. Shorebirds right fielder Brian Conley also made a defensive miscue.
