Former Stanford defensive back Bo McNally signed with the Washington Redskins and will participate in this weekend's three-day minicamp at Redskins Park.
I know what you're thinking -- why am I mentioning this on Orioles Insider?
Well, look at his last name. That's a big hint.
McNally is the grandson of ex-Orioles pitcher Dave McNally, who died of cancer in December 2002.
The elder McNally had four straight 20-win seasons during the most successful era in Orioles history from 1968 to 1971. During his 14-year career in the major leagues, including 13 seasons with the Orioles, the Montana native was 184-119 with a 3.24 ERA.
He is also the only pitcher to hit a grand slam in a World Series game.
In his sophomore season at Stanford in 2007, the younger McNally helped the Cardinal to upset then-No. 2 USC with a last-minute interception.
The 6-foot-1, 210-pound safety collected 11 career interceptions and led the team in tackles for his final three years, including 114 during the 2007 season.
