Today, Gov. Martin O'Malley will announce he will seek re-election. O'Malley wants to hold on to his seat, and to do so, he must battle former governor Robert Ehrlich.
Some would say the two politicians are cut from the same cloth: Both are Maryland boys who fell in love with politics; both are lawyers who made it to the front of the pact within their parties; and both dote on their beautiful families. Yet, the men couldn't be more different when it comes to their positions on key issues. Those who loved the HBO show "The Wire" might agree with that Gov. O'Malley must take a play from Tommy Carcetti's book — be hard working, unrelenting and an effective spokesman for his candidacy. In "The Wire," some of Carcetti's methods were questionable (as were many of his deeds) but he outhustled and outwitted his opponents. O'Malley should do the same and not take Ehrlich for granted.
Ehrlich's main gripes with O'Malley center on unemployment and the budget, two issues which many Marylanders think about on a daily basis. Soon enough, it will be up to the voters to head to the polls and decide who will lead them and put Marylanders back to work.
