Veteran cornerback Samari Rolle said he plans on retiring. He said he was awaiting official word from the Ravens about when they were going to terminate his contract, and that news came Tuesday from Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome.
"I will be retiring soon," said Rolle, from his home in Florida. "I have to retire, doctor's orders."
Rolle said he was not sure what he would do next, but might consider an offer from Newsome to work under him, and learn the administrative side of the NFL.
Rolle denied speculation that he had spoken with Ravens Pro Bowl safety Ed Reed about his retirement plans. In fact, Rolle said the only person he has spoken with from the Ravens in 2010 is Newsome. Reed has been nursing a neck injury the past two seasons.
"I hope Ed is OK, and Ed knows what he is going to do," said Rolle, who has suffered from a neck injury the past two seasons as well. "He has playing hurt the past two seasons, so he knows how to deal with it."
Rolle said he missed not playing last season, particularly with Reed and cornerback Chris McAlister.
