Everyone asks a film critic what his favorite films are. I'm revealing a full list for the first time, in alphabetical order, complete with explanations. There'll be 20 a week for five weeks, with 15 in week six to make a total of 115. I picked that number to honor the 115-year history of movies. (1895 is generally accepted as the first year of motion pictures.)
The good people who work with me on web projects have put together a photo gallery, with my brief write-ups for each film. A score of them just went on-line. (That's "Baby Doll," with Carroll Baker, above.)
In the weeks to come, I'll be talking to directors and other movie people about their favorite movies. (First up: Matt Porterfield.)
Start clicking on my choices. Have I left out any of your favorites? If so, don't forget to explain why.
