The The number of jobs in TV newsrooms is still in decline as vast technological, lifestyle and economic forces batter the media. But 2009 was a much better year for local TV news than 2008, and most industry leaders are optimistic anbout the future.
Those are among the key findings of the RTDNA/Hofstra University Annual Survey, one of the leading barometers of the TV news business.
"All told, 400 people in local TV news lost their jobs in 2009, accounting for 1.5 percent of the local TV workforce," the survey said. "That may be considered a bad year, but not nearly as bad as 2008, when 1,200 people lost jobs in TV news (4.3 percent of the workforce)."
