Three of the biggest shelters in the Baltimore area have joined up for a singular purpose: Find homes for 500 kitties in May.
To help that happen, they're offering free cats and kittens for the whole month. FREE!!!!
Shelters participating in what's called Baltimore 500 are the Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter (BARCS), Baltimore Humane Society, and the Maryland Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (MD SPCA). Regular adoption procedures will apply, but the shelters want to find homes for as many kitties as possible during kitten season, when they can get overwhelmed with cats in need of a rescue.
This little sweetie from the Baltimore Humane Society, Eloise, will be free, starting Saturday, if she's still there tomorrow.
The shelters brainstormed a few reasons they think folks should consider adopting a cat or a kitten during Baltimore 500. A little arm-twisting:
• If you already have a cat or kitten you should consider getting it a companion. Most cats and kittens are very social and enjoy the companionship of other cats or kittens.
• Cats and kittens are more self-sufficient than dogs and better suited for households where people work longer hours.
• Studies have demonstrated that having a cat can have important health benefits for people. Cats have been demonstrated to reduce incidents of depression and to reduce your blood pressure.
• Many cats who are available for adoption have lived in a home environment and will adjust quickly to a new home.
So there. How can you not do it? :-)
