Appliance and electronics retailer hhgregg just sent out word that it will open stores in the Baltimore area on May 6.
The Indianapolis-based retailer had already announced they were moving into the market, but hadn't set an opening date.
I'd never heard of hhgregg so have been curious to see what they're about. I'll get a sneak preview of a store on Friday and let you guys know. Some of the new stores will be located in old Circuit City stores, the electronics retailer that went out of business.
According to its website, hhgregg was opened by H.H. and Fansey Gregg in 1955 on the north side of Indianapolis. It sold washers and dryers, refrigerators and outdoor grills. It eventually moved into televisions and other electronic products.
It is still a family-run business with stores in Alabama, Indiania, Kentucky, Ohio, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennesse and Georgia.
Here are the stores that will open in our area:
7667 Arundel Mills Blvd., Hanover
150 - A Jennifer Rd., Annapolis
6026 Baltimore National Pike, Catonsville
680 Marketplace Dr., Bel Air
801 Goucher Blvd., Towson
6711 Ritchie Hwy, Glen Burnie
Update: Some of our readers informed me that hhgregg opened a Hagerstown store about a week ago. There will also be soft openings of stores beginning May 1, with the official opening slated for May 6.
