Baltimore's Artscape could expand to tech -- *not definite yet*

Yesterday, I reported that a group of volunteer organizers with BmoreSmart are pitching to add a tech component to the city's annual summer Artscape festival -- the biggest free festival in the country.

~~UPDATE, 10:00 a.m.: Heather Sarkissian, head of BmoreSmart, which organized the pitch, just told me that their tech proposal was quickly approved. (That was fast, since it was filed yesterday.)~~

UPDATE, 11:00 a.m.: I got my signals crossed -- the Betascape proposal has NOT been officially approved by the Baltimore Office of Promotion and the Arts. BOPA officials plan to meet with BmoreSmart on Monday, April 19, to discuss the idea of Betascape.

The group has ambitious hopes and ideas for raising the local profile of tech entrepreneurs and innovators, and they believe Artscape is a perfect venue for engaging with a broader, creative audience. They'd call it Betascape.

The tech they feature, they hope, will largely complement the art, exhibits and musical and visual performances that are now a staple of the festival. As you learn more about their proposal, let us know in the poll below if you'd like to see an interactive tech component added to Artscape.
