My colleague Ed Gunts reported today that operators for a proposed Walmart in Baltimore's Remington area want the store open 24 hours a day.
The store is part of a $65 million 25th Street Station project planned for Howard and 25th streets in the city. The proposal has brought opinions from both sides of the spectrum. Those opposed fear it will be a breeding ground for crime or that vagrants may even try to make it a home.
But others, tired of driving to the suburbs for shopping, welcome the chance to shop close to home at any time of the day.
Update:
Walmart spokesman Steve Restivo issued this statement regarding the potential operating hours at the new Walmart: “We are working with the developer of 25th Street Station to bring a 93,000 square foot Walmart with 200 new jobs to Remington. No decisions have been made regarding hours of operation. We are in consultation with local community groups about store hours and will continue to listen. Our hope is to bring closure to this issue soon.”
What do you think? Should city officials allow a 24-hour Walmart? Take our poll and give us your opinion.
