Vet: Euthanasia only answer to feral cat problem

Rhode Island's top veterinarian says that euthanasia is the only way to deal with the state's feral cat problem because trap, neuter and return programs are "ineffective."

According to this story in the Providence Journal, state veterinarian Scott Marshall proposes requiring animal-control officers to impound feral cats and that animal shelters put them to death.

"I'm not a cat hater. I'm a vet. I'm cat lover," Marshall told the paper. "I just don't see another solution to it. The solutions we have tried are ineffective."

Marshall cites the health risks to human from the roaming cats as a reason they must go.
