The Unleashed Testing Panel sampled Blue Dog Bakery Treats. Here's the verdict from Murphy the dog's point of view and from Emily and her pup, Lola:
MURPHY: My name is Murphy, actually Murphy's Irish Amber, but I am known as Murphy or Murf for short. I received a box of Blue Dog Bakery Dog Treats to test for Unleashed. My mom kept them as a surprise for me, because it was my eighth birthday last week. I was so very excited to see and sniff the box. I pick up the mail from the mail box each and every day with my dad, and I knew right away the package was for me. Now, in truth, being a large, goofy, yellow lab, I am not really a picky eater, and I am not always known for my epicurean taste. In fact, there are some who do raise legitimate questions as to why I choose to ingest what I do. However, these treats are something special, all right! They are all different flavors and shapes, from grilled steak to liver (yum) to chicken and beef and bacon. I can't decide which I love the best!
They are natural and low in fat and are made with all sorts of healthy ingredients like unbleached wheat flour, oats and, molasses. They have a crunchy texture, which makes them all the more satisfying to munch, and they really look like people cookies. Once I had helped myself to a few, and it looked like I was settling in to make a meal of them, my mom decided that she would reserve some and dole them out for rewards. I was very happy to "sit" and "shake paws" to get another! I can't wait until tonight, so that I can have another meaty, tasty, Blue Dog Bakery treat!
The Verdict:
EMILY AND LOLA: I was a little apprehensive when I saw we would be reviewing Blue Dog Bakery treats because Lola, an 8-year old bulldog, has a digestive system that, well, is a little less than reliable. She sat very nicely as I opened the box for the first time and gobbled up the small piece I broke off and gave to her. After a couple days (and realizing we were not in for any digestive adventures) of very small pieces, I gave another, larger piece to Lola. She instantly sat, started drooling and smacking her lips (bulldogs have lots of lips to smack).
I can't even tell if she's tasting them because she basically inhales the treat -- she LOVES them (and I love the fact they didn't wreck havoc on her digestive system and that they are made with 100% natural ingredients, with no animal by-products, no artificial flavors or colors, and no artificial preservatives).
The only down size of the Blue Dog Bakery treats are their size. One treat is about the size of an adult's hand, so for a dog with a smaller mouth, like Lola, I recommend breaking them into smaller pieces.
The verdict: 1/2 paws
