So we had a little scheduling snag last week and somehow didn't have anyone covering the episode of Real World D.C.
This was the episode that ended with Ty Ruff of Baltimore rough-housing with his roommate Andrew and Andrew falling off the porch, about 10 feet. Andrew is so intoxicated that he can't figure out whether he's injured, but he fell basically on his head. Ty is in the room and is also very drunk and thinks Andrew is just joking around. Emily tells Ty to leave the room, but he won't, and he keeps laughing and smiling, which makes everyone made.
So ... ambulance comes, and the next morning he's discharged with a neck brace and told to drink less since his main issue was intoxication and dehydration.
Many of the other roommates don't like this situation at all, so they decide to call a house meeting to talk about what happened. (Ty, by the way, was so drunk that he didn't even know the ambulance came for Andrew because he was sleeping when that happened.)
In the house meeting, Emily says Ty's aggression had been building all evening, and it seemed directed at her, so she is actually surprised she isn't the one who ended up in the hospital. Other agree that his aggression ramps up when he's drunk, and it makes them uncomfortable. But most uncomfortable seems to be Andrew, who bears no ill will toward Ty and says he's never seen this aggression. So he leaves the room.
Ty says it sounds like he turns into a beast when he drinks, so he thinks he shouldn't drink anymore. He vows not to get intoxicated in the house, and he says if he gets violent, then he should leave. Meeting adjourned.
Later, he and Emily talk about their relationship for what I gather is the umpteenth time. Yawn.
The next day ... OK, well at least it's the next scene ... Ty gets dressed up to go to his internship introduction with the Capitals. One of the things they want to work with him on is building more of a Baltimore audience for the Caps. Ta-da ... he has an internship.
Later, the roommates go to a party, and Ty drinks lots of Red Bull. In the cab after, he and Andrew and Josh talk about how they can get him a little alcohol here and there. They decide that he can drink a couple of beers and Josh will cut him off. Andrew says he used to spend $80 a week on comic books and his family had an intervention. Josh throws out that he had a real intervention "over other things." But no one asks any follow-up questions. Hello ... it's not just journalists who ask questions. Friends do that, too. But instead, Andrew throws out that Ty had an intervention the other day, and they start making fun of the situation, not realizing that Emily is taking a nap (or was) within earshot. She interviews that she doesn't care if she's the bad guy here.
Andrew's little brother William comes to visit. And in my favorite moment of the episode, William walks past the room where Josh's band (Wicked! Liquid!) is practicing and says, "Oh, cool, they're playing Rock Band." Nope, real instruments.
Then it's party time. Ty has a drink (well, he says one drink), and Ashley sees him but says she doesn't care as long as he doesn't get aggressive, she doesn't care.
The next morning, he tells Emily that he had a beer or two, and she's like, Um, remember our conversation. He says the agreement was that he would leave if he got aggressive. She says it was that he wouldn't drink anymore. Sigh. Ugh, this whole thing just makes me uncomfortable.
Then Emily decides she will just remove herself when Ty's drinking makes her uncomfortable. Ty makes this sound like a failing.
Ty goes to work, and it's media day for the Caps. The end. No really, it was a short segment.
Emily talks to her mom, who thinks Emily needs to stand up for herself.
Ty goes to dinner with Andrew and Josh and drinks with them, complaining about the girls going on a power trip.
At the house, Emily tries to have a talk with Ty about the drinking. It turns into a screaming match, and he thinks he never said he won't drink at all. It really stinks that no one in the house is backing her up, since that IS what he said at the meeting.
Emily yells, and Ty is calm, so Emily looks crazy.
In other news, Andrew wears a moose hat.
Fight fight fight. Truce. Fight. Conversation. Crying. Oh, hey, it's Mike. Haven't seen him for 48 minutes or so. One-on-one talk. Detente.
I'm exhausted, and I don't even live there!
