Matusz dazzles in debut (updated)

Brian Matusz just struck out the side in the bottom of the first inning, and that's not the half of it. He ended the inning with a 13-pitch duel with Rays star Evan Longoria during which Longoria broke two bats before striking out on a foul tip that was held by catcher Craig Tatum.

Matusz allowed two runs in the second inning, but they came on an error by Blake Davis and a wind-blown fly ball by Sean Rodriguez that sailed into the Rays bullpen behind right field.

He faced six batters and struck out four, then gave way to reliever Ross Wolf after throwing 36 pitches, 28 for strikes.
