Fabian Washington expects to be ready for the start of training camp, the Ravens reported.
Washington, a starting cornerback for the Ravens the past two seasons, is coming off a season-ending knee injury. He was lifting weights this week when the team began its voluntary offseason conditioning program.
"The schedule is for me to be ready for training camp and we're definitely on schedule for that," Washington told the Ravens. "Right now, I'm not close. But I think by training camp, I'll be ready to rock and roll."
Washington tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee on Nov. 22 when he lowered his shoulder in an attempt to force Indianapolis Colts running back Joseph Addai out of bounds. He appeared to land on his left leg awkwardly and had to be carried off the field.
If Washington can return for training camp, he'll have a strong opportunity to start once again opposite Domonique Foxworth. Lardarius Webb was expected to take over the starting job this season, but his status is uncertain. Webb tore his ACL so late in the season (Dec. 20) that his recovery schedule is later than the one for Washington.
"I can do pretty much anything right now at a slow pace," Washington told the Ravens. "You want me to run? I can run. It's just going to be slower than people are used to seeing."
