Edwards leaves Bills without a deal

Free-agent defensive end Dwan Edwards left his visit with the Buffalo Bills on Tuesday without a deal.

Edwards has made three visits during free agency and has yet to receive an offer. At this point, the Ravens probably could retain him -- if they want to bring him back.

"[Free agency] has been a little difficult. I'm not going to lie," Edwards said in his first comments since becoming a free agent at the beginning of this month. "I kind of knew coming in some teams might have some issues with my neck."

Edwards underwent spinal fusion surgery after missing the 2008 season. He played in 18 games last season, starting 10 of them.

"I haven't had any problems at all," Edwards said."But we understand the business side of it."

If the Bills wanted Edwards, they probably wouldn't have allowed him to leave. On the same day Edwards was in Buffalo, the Bills signed linebacker Andra Davis to a two-year contract before his free-agent visit was over.

Edwards said he doesn't have any other free-agent visits scheduled.

"I'd like to get [a contract] done sooner than later," Edwards said. "I'd like to get started, jump in and be the best player I can be. I don't have any issues. I've been cleared to play by the doctor who did my surgery."

Edwards believes he would be an asset to a younger team.

"We have so many leaders on our [Ravens] team, -- Ray Lewis, Ed Reed and some others -- you kind of get lost," Edwards said. "To have a voice in front of some of those guys is kind of tough. I've learned a lot from those guys. Wherever I end up, I'd love to bring a certain leadership quality -- the way I work and practice hopefully I can rub off on young guys and old guys alike."
