April Fool's Day travel sales

April Fool's Day is no joke. Ha-ha. I'm killing here. Really? Not! Sad attempt to get to the point that there are a few travel sales playing off tomorrow's April 1 date. Here are two examples:

The Homestead, a lovely golf and spa resort in Hot Springs, Va., is offering a "We Aren't Fooling" 48-hour sale with a free night's stay when you book two consecutive nights. The offer is good for stays through Nov. 21, but you have to make your reservations by Saturday. Book online or call 800-838-1766.

Now at the other end of the scale, Red Roof Inn has a "No Foolin'" 1-cent sale for rooms through April 15. OK. it sounds too good to be true, but it is true. With a few catches. First, the hotel chain is only offering 1% of their rooms at this price, which works out to be about one room per hotel property. Is it worth it? It is if you can find that one room! But you can only book the room the day before and reservations open at 12 p.m. And you can only book online. The deal starts today.

Travelocity has a one-day "Savings Flashback" sale with hotel prices from the 80s. Retrograde, so to speak. Why the 80s? I really dunno. An homage to my high school, ahem, elementary school years? Here's the link, but it's not live until tomorrow.
