Amtrak lowers fares on Northeast Regional by 25%

If you've got a good thing going, why change it? That may be the reason that Amtrak is making permanent its recent discount of 25 percent on the Northeast Regional. So one-way fare from Baltimore to New York is $49 when you book at least 14 days in advance. If you don't, you'll pay the usual $67. Baltimore to Philadelphia: $31. Baltimore to Boston, $68. Fares are coach only - no upgrades and seats may be limited on some trains. Blackout dates apply, too, including - you guessed it - Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's. Still Amtrak is inching just a bit closer to the bus crowd. (I know $1 for MegaBus.com is more than an inch.)
