So four more will be cut on tonight's American Idol, and then next week we will be headed into the finals, with the Top 12.
Oh, and if you didn't hear, Big Mike Lynche's performance of "This Woman's Work" made Kara DioGuardi cry. Because it's all about Kara, don'tcha know!
Anyway, let's get back to the contestants, shall we? Their group sing of the week is "I Haven't Met You Yet," by Michael Buble. It's lip-sync-tastic!
Before the results, Ryan Seacrest announces that next week's theme will be the music of the Rolling Stones. Intriguing! Could be awesome, could be troublesome.
Didi Benami is called forward first, and lo and behold, she is the first person in the Top 12.
Siobhan Magnus is a finalist, too.
Paige Miles and Katelyn Epperly get called to the stage together. Ryan says one is in, and one is out. Page is in the Top 12, and Katelyn is out. I'm actually quite shocked because Paige had a bad night, and she got zero screen time before this started. But, as Simon just pointed out, Katelyn only had one fantastic week. She reprises her performance of "I Feel the Earth Move," and some pitch problems cause my husband to blurt out, "And that is why you're going home." Ouch. But not false. She runs over and cries on the contestants who haven't heard their fates yet. Awww, sad.
Next, some of the guys are called forward.
Tim Urban, Todrick Hall, Lee Dewyze and Casey James hit the stage together. Casey is in the Top 12. So is Tim, shocked, shocked Tim. Lee makes it through, and Todrick is out. And Todrick absolutely kills his reprisal. In an awesome way.
Next, last season's Scott MacIntyre and Matt Giraud hit the stage together to perform Billy Joel's "Tell Her About It." They rock it out, but Matt is singing so hard and so fast, it's like he's trying to stay ahead of the music, while Scott is a tad more subdued in his delivery. However, they are clearly having a blast.
Crystal Bowersox is (duh) in the Top 12. Michael Lynche is called forward and goes toward the middle of the stage instead of right next to Ryan, who makes fun of him a bit. Mike points out that he went where "Debbie" told him to go, Debbie being the stage manager who yelled at Ryan on air last week. Anyway, Mike is in the Top 12, too. Lacey Brown is as well. Aaron Kelly is so young! And he is in the Top 12, too.
Alex Lambert and Andrew Garcia come to the stage together. Andrew Garcia is in, Alex is out. Aww, bummer. I was starting to like him. He cries and says he wishes he'd broken out of his shell more. Ellen reassures him that he is really, really good and he just needs to keep on believing in himself.
This leaves Katie Stevens and Lilly Scott. After the break, there are still hugs and crying going on. Ryan actually kind of has to ask Alex to leave the stage. So sad. Katie and Lilly wait and wait some more. Finally, they learn that Katie Stevens is in the Top 12, and Lilly is out. (Sorry, Bucky!) Katie looks shocked and flees the stage crying. Lilly tells Ryan that she thought she did really well and that she appealed to a lot of people, so she, too, is surprised. She says that "a lot of incredible talent is going home tonight" and that "I don't know what America wants to hear." That's not the most gracious exit interview I've ever heard.
So to recap, the Top 12 is Didi Benami, Siobhan Magnus, Paige Miles, Tim Urban, Lee Dewyze, Casey James, Crystal Bowersox, Michael Lynche, Lacey Brown, Aaron Kelly, Andrew Garcia and Katie Stevens.
