Tiger Woods has grabbed headlines with revelations about his string of mistresses, his withdrawal from the pro golf tour and last week's somewhat robotic public apology. But if you weant to read about the Master Philanderer, you won't have to wait long. France's national library has purchased the 3,700-page-plus memoir of Giacomo Girolamo Casanova (1725-1798).
The Bibliotheque nationale de France plans to display the memoir, which has been translated over the years, usually in a sanitized version to lessen the scandal of his seductions, which included more than 100 women, possibly several men and at least one nun. Or, in French, which somehow sounds much less sordid: "des femmes du monde, des actrices, des servantes, une religieuse."
Unfortunately, Woods' actions are sordid in any language.
