Welcome back to another week of The Next Level, and quite the week it was for men's players from the Baltimore area. In fact, it was the strongest week of the season in terms of overall performances by former local standouts.
Because of that, we're going to depart from the norm today. There were so many notable performances that naming only a top five list would leave out some very deserving players. So, without further delay, here's a top 10, in alphabetical order by college team.To start things off, congratulations are in order for Bryant guard Raphael Jordan (John Carroll), who helped the Bulldogs beat Wagner on Thursday, their first victory of the season, bringing a little excitement to what has to have been a very trying year. For the week, Bryant averaged 13.5 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.0 steals over two games. Devin Brown (City) of Holy Cross also had a strong week, scoring 19.5 points per game and making 13 of 14 free throws in two contests.
La Salle's Steve Weingarten (Catonsville) had easily his best week since The Next Level made its basketball debut. The junior forward averaged 12.5 points and an impressive 13.5 rebounds, including 7.0 offensive boards, over two games. Longwood's Kevin Swecker (Mount St. Joseph) is another newcomer to the list; in two games, he put up averages of 16.5 points and 3.5 assists.
Massachusetts received strong weeks from two local players, Ricky Harris (Calvert Hall) and Terrell Vinson (St. Frances). Harris recorded 16.5 points per game and 4.5 assists over two contests. Vinson averaged 14.5 points, 6.0 rebounds (3.5 offensive) and 2.0 steals.
Morgan State's Reggie Holmes (St. Frances) continued to score in bunches, averaging 18.7 points and 6.3 rebounds, as well as shooting a combined 22-for-25 from the foul line, over three games. New Mexico State's Jahmar Young (Du Bois) scored 20.0 points and added 5.0 assists in a pair of games.
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's Kevin Palmer (Parkville) turned in a nice all-around performance, averaging 14.0 points, 5.5 rebounds and 5.5 assists over two contests. Towson Catholic alum Malcolm Delaney of Virginia Tech put up 25.0 points, 5.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists in two games, playing an average of 37.5 minutes.
