Once again, I tried to take the high road when it came to Kate Gosselin. All week, I tried to ignore the rumors that she would be named a contestant on ABC's "Dancing with the Stars" when the next cycle of contestants is announced Monday night during the "The Bachelor."
I ignored the rumor when a publicist (not from the ABC show) called me up and told me about it "off the record." I told her this wasn't Watergate, and I needed her to be on the record. Good luck, let me know how that works out, she said. I ignored it again when the rumor showed up in the New York tabloids and on several Web sites.
But Friday, the "Washington Post" carried the rumor attributing it to an anonymous source, without indicating why the source requested anonymity. I thought that was the rule -- indicating why the source was being given anonymity. Oh well, it is after all, Kate Gosselin, and maybe she is bigger than the rules that apply to Congress and the White House.
UPDATE: Monday 1 p.m. -- Radaronline says Kate Gosselin is on the show. Here's the link.
And now comes my dear friend Robert Seidman at tvbythenumbers.com, citing the "Post" item on the mom from the late TLC reality show. This would be my same dear friend who thinks I am obsessed with all things Kate. He apologized for the post saying it was a slow news day.
So, I think it is time to face the real possibility that Kate Gosselin is going to be with us on a weekly basis for at least a few nights in coming weeks. And why wouldn't a narcissist like Kate want to be on a show with all those mirrors?
What do you think? She has been angling for "Dancing with the Stars" since her appearance last year on Jay Leno's now-cancelled prime-time series, so she does appear to want to be on the show. But do you think she is capable of the discipline it takes to learn to dance at that level? After all, there is some rehearsal and willingness to follow instructions involved. And what about communicating a sense of joy when you perform? Kate communicates mainly a sense of crankiness when she appears on-camera? And what about being away from her kids for the several weeks of the show? Didn't she once say that kind of absence was out of the question?
Will you watch "The Bachelor" Monday to see if she is announced as being on the show. And will you watch "Dancing With the Stars" ever again if she is?
From her phony book of letters to her kids, to just this kind of rumor, it does not look like Kate Gosselin is going away any time soon.
