Big dog kills Shih Tsu at dog park

In a simply awful story out of Tampa, a Rhodesian ridgeback killed a Shih Tzu at a brand new city dogpark.

The St. Pete Times reports, a 110-pound Rhodesian, named Lucius, grabbed the 10-pound Moby in his teeth. Moby's person jumped on the bigger dog and got bitten himself, but it was too late for Moby.

Moby's owners believe that their little pup would still be alive if the Tampa dog park had separate areas for large and small dogs. Here in Baltimore, of our two legal dog parks, Canton has the divided spaces, Locust Point does not.

Of course there could be bad apples of all sizes, but I see the point that if, at least, big dogs were with big ones and small with small, if there was a bad apple in the mix, the fight would be more fair.

As Baltimore talks about building more dog parks, do you think the divided areas should be part of the discussion...perhaps a deal breaker?

Moby with her person. RIP, little sweetie.
