Reed expected to skip Pro Bowl

Ed Reed was not on the AFC's roster on Thursday, which likely means the Ravens safety will miss the Pro Bowl.

A team official confirmed Reed wasn't on the roster, but there hasn't been an official announcement on his replacement.

Reed, who said he was "50-50" on whether he would return next season, was scheduled to meet with his medical team this offseason to discuss his injuries. Ravens coach John Harbaugh and teammates have publicly said they expect Reed to come back for the 2010 season.

That leaves the Ravens with four players in Sunday's Pro Bowl: linebacker Ray Lewis, running back Ray Rice, defensive tackle Haloti Ngata and fullback Le'Ron McClain.

At this point, the Pro Bowl safeties for the AFC are: New England's Brandon Meriweather, Denver's Brian Dawkins and Miami's Yeremiah Bell. Meriweather would likely start in place of Reed. On Tuesday, Bell replaced Indianapolis Colts safety Antoine Bethea.
