Troy Smith, whose agent has reportedly requested a trade from the Ravens, has found a supporter with the Buffalo Bills.
Free safety Donte Whitner, who played with Smith at Ohio State, posted on his Twitter account (DonteWhitner) earlier Tuesday morning that the Bills should acquire the quarterback.
Here is what Whitner wrote in chronological order:
"I think we should get Troy Smith to be our Qb, please!"
"Troy is a proven winner and leader! Joe Flacco is the franchise in B' More its only right....I watched the guy sit behind Justin Zwick....."
"Troy can come in and compete with the guys we have and the BEST man will win the job!"
"In the national championship vs Fla u saw his best wr go down with and injury and an overweight offensiveline that had too much time off.."
"Coach [Chan] Gailey would make him so dangerous! He's great I promise u! Something like never seen before!!!!"
Whitner may be jumping the gun, but he's probably witnessed the rotation at quarterback this past season and come away unimpressed. Trent Edwards began the season as the starter, completing 60.1 percent of his passes but throwing just six touchdowns against seven interceptions before suffering a high ankle sprain.
That paved the way for Ryan Fitzpatrick, who completed 55.9 percent of his passes for nine touchdowns and 10 interceptions. Third-stringer Brian Brohm threw zero touchdowns and two interceptions in one start.
So maybe Whitner is onto something. Either way, Smith's agent denied having a hand in Whitner's "tweets."
