*Logically, a win by the Terps today against Boston College shouldn't matter all that much in the larger scheme of Ralph Friedgen's career and his future. I mean, it's the difference between finishing 2-9 and 2-10 this season. But I can't shake the nagging feeling that it matters to Friedgen's fate, if only a little.

Don't coaches get judged partly on whether they retain a hold on their team -- whether the team is still motivated and on an upward arc? Maryland looked a little lost against Virginia Tech two weeks ago but showed improvement last week against Florida State in a game the Terps should have won.

If you were about to meet with the athletic director about your job, wouldn't you want to be coming off a win instead of a seven-game winning streak? Friedgen urgently wants to win.

*I'm not expecting a decision on Friedgen's fate for a few days, by the way. This is going to take a little time for athletic director Debbie Yow to render her decision. And what if Fridge had to make some concessions (such as staff changes etc.) to keep his job? That could take some time to sort out as well.
