The Triple-A Norfolk Tides swept a doubleheader against the Charlotte Knights, and the Double-A Bowie Baysox fell to the Akron Aeros.

The game between the Single-A Frederick Keys and the Wilmington Blue Rocks was rained out, and the Single-A Delmarva Shorebirds used late heroics to top the Bowling Green Hot Rods.


The short-season Single-A Aberdeen IronBirds lost to the Vermont Lake Monsters.

The Rookie-level Bluefield Orioles pounded the Bristol Sox, and the Rookie-level GCL Orioles edged the GCL Red Sox.

Norfolk Tides (AAA)

Game 1 recap: Starting pitcher Chris Tillman (8-5) gave up one run and seven hits in 6 2/3 innings during the Tides' 5-1 victory in the first game of the doubleheader.

The 21-year-old right-hander struck out seven batters and earned his third consecutive win. Tillman threw 60 of his 95 pitches for strikes.

Tides catcher Robby Hammock hit a grand slam with two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning, and right fielder Michael Aubrey was 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI and a run scored.

Relief pitcher Alberto Castillo recorded the final out of the game for the Tides to pick up his sixth save of the season.

Baysox right fielder Ambiorix Concepcion was 2-for-3 with a run scored, and third baseman Jonathan Tucker contributed a double, an RBI and a run scored.

Relief pitcher John Mariotti (2-8) allowed three runs and four hits in three innings for the Baysox.

The Keys' matchup on the road against Wilmington was postponed due to unplayable field conditions tonight. The two teams will play a doubleheader Saturday beginning at 5:05 p.m.

Delmarva Shorebirds (A)
