--President Obama’s trip to the Middle East has the chance to bring real change to the region,  not because of his eloquence but because he is showing a real willingness to shift U.S. policy. His tough stance toward settlement building in Israel is the right one, and his willingness to speak forcefully about it gives the U.S. credibility as a broker in Mideast peace talks.

--The state's warning against eating even those rockfish caught in the ocean is a sad day for Maryland's state fish. It robs recreational anglers of one of life's simple pleasures, catching and eating your own supper. The development should be a wake-up call about how thoroughly we're fouling our waterways, but if history is any guide, it probably won't be.
