It was a day full of good news for the Orioles' minor league system on Sunday because all four full-season affiliates earned a win.
The results were completely opposite, however, on Monday when all four teams lost -- including two blowouts.
The Triple-A Norfolk Tides were pounded by the Columbus Clippers, and the Double-A Bowie Baysox were edged by the Trenton Thunder. The Single-A Frederick Keys lost to the Lynchburg Hillcats, while the Single-A Delmarva Shorebirds were beaten by the Kannapolis Intimidators.
Recap: Starting pitcher John Mariotti (0-3) allowed two runs (one earned) and six hits in 6 1/3 innings, and the Baysox were blanked, 2-0, by Trenton. The 24-year-old right-hander walked five batters and collected three strikeouts in the loss.
Baysox third baseman Miguel Abreu was 2-for-4, and catcher Guillermo Rodriguez and shortstop Robert Valido each added a hit.
Bowie relief pitcher Ryan Rodriguez retired all five batters he faced.
First baseman Brandon Snyder didn't play for the second straight game. I'm not sure if this is due to any sort of injury or just routine rest, but I'll pass along any updates as soon as possible.
Frederick Keys (A)
Score: Lynchburg Hillcats 5, Frederick Keys 3 (Box score)
Recap: Right fielder Billy Rowell hit a two-run home run, his seventh of the season, but the Keys fell to Lynchburg, 5-3.
Frederick starting pitcher Pedro Beato (3-4) suffered the loss after giving up five runs and nine hits in six innings. The 22-year-old right-hander struck out five batters and issued two walks in the game.
