Today's game recaps -- June 14

The Triple-A Norfolk Tides snapped a four-game losing streak by beating the Indianapolis Indians, and the Double-A Bowie Baysox beat the New Britain Rock Cats.

The Single-A Frederick Keys fell to the Potomac Nationals, and the Single-A Delmarva Shorebirds failed to score a run in their loss to the Hagerstown Suns.


The Keys added left-hander Nathan Nery to the active roster for tonight's start, and they transferred Kenny Moreland to the short-season Single-A Aberdeen IronBirds.

Norfolk Tides (AAA)

Score: Norfolk Tides 4, Indianapolis Indians 2 (Box score)


Recap: Left fielder Joey Gathright was 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI, two runs scored and two stolen bases in the Tides' 4-2 win over Indianapolis.

Norfolk first baseman Jolbert Cabrera was 1-for-4 with two RBIs, and right fielder Jeff Fiorentino added his 25th RBI in 37 games at Triple-A in 2009.

Starting pitcher David Hernandez gave up two runs and two hits in four innings for the Tides, but he didn't factor in the decision. The 24-year-old right-hander struck out seven batters and issued three walks.

Tides relief pitcher Ross Wolf (3-2) only allowed one hit in three scoreless innings to earn the victory, and Jim Miller retired all three batters he faced for this 14th save of the season.

Shortstop Carlos Rojas collected a double and a run scored for the Tides. Bowie Baysox (AA)

Score: Bowie Baysox 5, New Britain Rock Cats 2 (Box score)

Recap: Catcher Adam Donachie was 3-for-4 with two doubles and four RBIs, and the Baysox beat New Britain, 5-2.

Bowie first baseman Brandon Snyder collected two doubles, and third baseman Miguel Abreu added two hits and two runs scored.

Baysox starting pitcher Fredy Deza (2-2) picked up the victory after allowing two runs and four hits in five innings. Relief pitcher Ryan Rodriguez tossed two scoreless innings to earn his first save of the season.

Center fielder Dave Krynzel was 1-for-3 with two runs scored for Bowie, and second baseman Rodolfo Cardona knocked in a run with a sacrifice fly.

Frederick Keys (A)

Score: Potomac Nationals 5, Frederick Keys 4, 10 innings (Box score)

Recap: First baseman Brandon Waring hit his 11th home run of the season, but the Keys lost, 5-4, in 10 innings against Potomac at Harry Grove Stadium.

Frederick center fielder Matt Angle was 2-for-5, and second baseman Bobby Stevens scored two runs.


Starting pitcher Nathan Nery gave up four runs and eight hits in 6 2/3 innings for the Keys, and relief pitcher Jake Stevens (2-2) allowed one run and three hits in 3 1/3 innings.

Every Keys starter had at least one hit in the loss.

Delmarva Shorebirds (A)

Score: Hagerstown Suns 6, Delmarva Shorebirds 0 (Box score)

Recap: Starting pitcher Cole McCurry (3-5) allowed three runs and three hits in six innings, and the Shorebirds were blanked, 6-0, by Hagerstown. The 23-year-old left-hander collected seven strikeouts and walked two batters.

Delmarva relief pitcher Travis Keating gave up three runs and three hits in one inning. Shorebirds catcher Dustin Black tossed a scoreless inning of relief, striking out two of the three batters he faced.

The Shorebirds couldn't get much going offensively. Right fielder Ronnie Welty hit a double for Delmarva, but the rest of the team managed only three singles.
