The Orioles didn't distinguish themselves in either half of the first inning tonight. Leadoff man Brian Roberts made Erik Bedard work hard to get him out, only to have Adam Jones and Nick Markakis turn it into a low-stress inning by fishing for first pitch down in the strike zone.

Fast forward to the bottom of the first and what looked like it would be a replay of Monday night's great escape by Rich Hill. David Hernandez had runners on second and third with no one out, but worked himself into position to get out of it on a line drive to left by Jose Lopez. The ball should have been caught, but Nolan Reimold got a bad break on the ball and let it glance off his glove for a two-run double.

Going to be very difficult to overcome that kind of start against Bedard, who barely gives up an average two earned runs per game.
