Sign of better times

If Tom Glavine had been released a month ago instead of today, you can bet there would have been dozens of posts here and hundreds on the various Orioles message boards advocating the club taking a chance on him.

Not now. I've seen only a couple of queries about the Orioles and Glavine, who was pitching well in his minor league rehab assignment when the Braves decided to release him instead of pay him a $1 million roster bonus. Not only is there little interest in bringing Glavine to Baltimore, the wouldn't be any place to put him. The Orioles are trying to figure out what to do when Koji Uehara comes off the disabled list.

It wouldn't surprise me, however, if the Nationals got involved. Former Braves and current Nationals president Stan Kasten has a long history with Glavine and the Nats pitching staff could use some leadership.
