Live: IronBirds vs. Staten Island -- Notes and lineups

Good evening to everyone from the press box at Ripken Stadium.

It seems to be a nice night for baseball, but there are some dark clouds out in the distance. I'm not sure if rain is in the forecast, so we'll see if the game is delayed at any point tonight.

So far this season, the IronBirds have a 1-1 record. They split a series on the road with the Hudson Valley Renegades, and one of the matchups was postponed until next month.

InsideTheOs.com's Michael Jaffe spoke to Brandon Erbe and Blake Davis prior to the game about the recovery from their respective injuries. Both players are in Aberdeen on an injury rehabilitation assignment.

Here are some notes about tonight's game, courtesy of the two teams:

• The IronBirds are 3-3 in Opening Day games at Ripken Stadium, and their last win in a home opener was in 2007. Aberdeen defeated Hudson Valley, 12-1, on June 19, 2007.

• Aberdeen plays its first 12 games of the season against opponents from within the McNamara Division of the New York-Penn League. The IronBirds were 12-21 against teams in the division.

• Staten Island dropped its first two games of the 2009 season to the Brooklyn Cyclones. The Yankees were defeated, 5-2, in six innings on Sunday afternoon.

• There are nine players from the 2009 MLB draft on Staten Island, and first baseman Rob Lyerly is the highest pick (sixth round). Other notable players on the Yankees are the organization's eighth-round selection, left-handed pitcher Samuel Elam, and the 13th-round choice, outfielder DeAngelo Mack.
