Double-A Bowie Baysox starting pitcher Jake Arrieta was honored as the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for the second time in 2009.
The 23-year-old right-hander is the first pitcher in the league to earn the award twice this season, and he is the first Baysox pitcher to receive the honor more than once in a season since John Stephens was selected three times in 2001.
Arrieta won both his starts last week for the Baysox, and he allowed only two runs and eight hits in 13 2/3 innings. During the two games, Arrieta collected 14 strikeouts and issued three walks.
In the first game of the doubleheader on Sunday at Prince George's Stadium, Arrieta threw his second shutout of the season -- a seven-inning victory over the Erie SeaWolves.
