Syracuse: Michael O'Connor (1-2, 3.68 ERA)

Notes

* In his last start, Waters didn't factor in the decision after allowing one run and three hits in seven innings against the Buffalo Bisons on May 8. The 28-year-old left-hander threw 89 pitches (61 strikes) in the Tides' 4-1 loss. Overall, Waters has given up 19 runs (18 earned) and 30 hits in 30 2/3 innings during six starts for Norfolk in 2009.

* O'Connor, who graduated from Mount St. Joseph, is 1-2 with a 3.68 ERA since being promoted from the Double-A Harrisburg Senators. The 28-year-old left-hander was 0-1 with a 2.45 ERA in three starts for Harrisburg before being called up to the Chiefs. O'Connor allowed three runs and eight hits in 3 1/3 innings during his last start against the Indianapolis Indians on May 9.

* With last night's 5-3 victory, the Tides (20-12) maintained a 1 1/2-game lead over the Durham Bulls (19-14) in the International League South Division. The 23-year-old right-hander collected one strikeout and walked two batters in Bowie's 4-3 loss. In six games (five starts) between Frederick and Bowie so far this season, Gleason is 0-4 with an 8.28 ERA in 25 innings.

* The Baysox (13-17) dropped to 10 games behind the Akron Aeros (23-7) in the Eastern League Southern Division after yesterday's loss. Erie has won six consecutive games to improve their record to 21-10 this season. The SeaWolves trail Akron by 2 1/2 games in the division.

Frederick Keys (A)

Opponent

Myrtle Beach Pelicans (11 a.m.)

Probable pitchers

Frederick: Brian Matusz (2-2, 3.18 ERA)

Myrtle Beach: Richard Sullivan (0-1, 5.54 ERA)

Notes

* What can Matusz do for an encore? The 22-year-old left-hander struck out a career-high 13 batters and only issued one walk in seven innings during the Keys' 3-0 loss to the Wilmington Blue Rocks on May 8. Matusz allowed two runs (one earned) and six hits in the game. After six starts, Matusz leads the Carolina League with 45 strikeouts in 2009.

* Sullivan is scheduled to make his third start of the season for the Pelicans. The 22-year-old left-hander was 4-1 with a 3.72 ERA in five starts for the Single-A Rome Braves in the South Atlantic League before being promoted to Myrtle Beach earlier this month. Sullivan allowed four runs and seven hits in six innings against the Kinston Indians on May 9.

* Frederick (14-19) remains in last place in the Carolina League Northern Division after last night's 2-1 loss to Myrtle Beach. The Keys are 6 1/2 games behind the two division leaders -- Lynchburg Hillcats and Potomac Nationals -- who are both 20-12 so far this season. The Pelicans (11-22) are six games behind the Kinston Indians and Salem Red Sox in the Southern Division. Kinston and Salem are both 17-16 in 2009.

at West Virginia Power (7:05 p.m.)

Probable pitchers

Delmarva: Nathan Moreau (0-0, 3.00 ERA)

West Virginia: Rudy Owens (3-1, 3.38 ERA)

Notes

* Moreau pitched well in his season debut against the Power on May 8 at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium. The 22-year-old left-hander gave up one run and two hits in three innings, and the Shorebirds cruised to a 7-1 victory. Moreau was 1-2 with a 5.70 ERA in 10 games (seven starts) for the short-season Single-A Aberdeen IronBirds last season after the Orioles selected him in the 11th round of the 2008 MLB draft.

* Owens earned the victory against the Hagerstown Suns in his last start on May 9. The 21-year-old left-hander allowed one run and four hits in six innings. Owens struck out six batters and didn't allow any walks in West Virginia's 10-4 win. He has given up two earned runs or less in five out of six starts this season.

* The Shorebirds (17-12) are in a virtual tie with the Lakewood BlueClaws (18-13) in the South Atlantic League Northern Division. Delmarva has lost back-to-back games, while the BlueClaws have a three-game winning streak. West Virginia (9-23) is in last place in the division, trailing the two teams by 9 1/2 games.
