Today's game recaps -- April 28

The Triple-A Norfolk Tides suffered a blowout loss, while the Double-A Bowie Baysox were edged in extra innings.

The Single-A Frederick Keys and Single-A Delmarva Shorebirds both earned close victories.

Norfolk Tides (AAA)

Score: Gwinnett Braves 8, Norfolk Tides 2 (Box score)

Recap: Gwinnett scored four runs in the top of the first inning against Tides starting pitcher Chris Waters (2-2) and never looked back. The Braves beat Norfolk, 8-2, at Harbor Park.

Waters allowed five runs (four earned) and seven hits in 5 2/3 innings. The 28-year-old left-hander walked four hitters and collected one strikeout.

Norfolk first baseman Oscar Salazar extended his hitting streak to 14 games with a double. Center fielder Justin Christian added two hits for the Tides, and catcher Matt Wieters was 1-for-4 with two RBIs.

Tides relief pitcher Radhames Liz gave up three runs and five hits in 2 1/3 innings.Bowie Baysox (AA)

Score: Erie SeaWolves 5, Bowie Baysox 4, 11 innings (Box score)

Recap: Baysox starting pitcher Troy Patton only allowed two runs and six hits in six innings, but the bullpen couldn't hold the lead in the 5-4 loss to Erie. The 23-year-old left-hander struck out five hitters and issued one walk.

Center fielder Miguel Abreu and second baseman Paco Figueroa each collected two hits and an RBI for the Baysox. First baseman Brandon Snyder was 1-for-4 with an RBI, and left fielder Jonathan Tucker added a double, a run scored and an RBI.

Bowie relief pitcher Chad Thall was charged with two runs and two hits in 1 1/3 innings, while Ryan Rodriguez gave up the winning run after getting two outs in the 11th.

Frederick Keys (A)

Score: Frederick Keys 6, Winston-Salem Dash 4 (Box score)

Recap: Left fielder Kraig Binick was 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs in the Keys' 6-4 victory over Winston-Salem.

Frederick catcher Wally Crancer was 2-for-5 with a solo home run and two runs scored, while first baseman Chris Vinyard also went deep in the game.

Every player in Frederick's starting lineup had at least one hit. Right fielder Billy Rowell and third baseman Brandon Waring collected two hits each.

Keys starting pitcher Tim Bascom (2-2) earned the victory after allowing two runs and seven hits in six innings. Luis Lebron recorded the final four outs to pick up his third save this season.

Delmarva Shorebirds (A)

Score: Delmarva Shorebirds 2, Lakewood BlueClaws 1 (Box score)

Recap: Starting pitcher Rick Zagone (2-1) struck out seven hitters in six innings, and the Shorebirds held off Lakewood, 2-1. The 22-year-old left-hander allowed one run and three hits.

Delmarva second baseman LJ Hoes was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI single. Designated hitter Joe Mahoney collected two hits and a run scored for the Shorebirds, while left fielder Kyle Hudson was 1-for-3 with a run scored. Mahoney picked up two stolen bases in the game, while Hudson successfully stole three times.

Shorebirds closer Brandon Cooney pitched 1 1/3 innings to earn his fourth save of the season.
