Manager Dave Trembley wasn't willing to speculate on the weekend roster move that will have to be made to make room for Sunday starter Adam Eaton. He said the decision probably won't be made until Sunday morning.
"We just need to get through tomorrow night's game and then find a place for Eaton,'' Trembley said.
If I was a betting man -- and since we're not in Las Vegas this weekend, I guess I'm not -- I'd think that Brian Bass will be waived and outrighted to whereever there's room in the minor leagues. Trembley, however, made mention of his inability to use Matt Albers today, which could be a hint that he could be the first man sent out.
"None of them (roster moves) are ever easy,'' Trembley said, "but you know starting the season that there is going to be some movement back and forth. We were aware when we got (Robert) Andino that when it was time for Eaton to make the start, we'd have to make a move."
Trembley was, as usual, complimentary of the Tampa Bay Rays and the way they lifted themselves off the floor in the American League East to win the pennant last year.
"Andy (MacPhail) has said it,'' Trembley said. "They are a very good road map for us. There are a lot of things they do that we'd like to do. They were able to send David Price down. I hope we're in a position to have that kind of pitching depth and I think we will be."
