Koji Uehara sent a chill through the chilly ballpark when he walked Derek Jeter to open the game. When you're known for your control and you walk the very first batter in your very first regular season game on American soil, it's fair for fans to wonder what's going to happen next, but Uehara collected himself and retired the next three batters in order.

Taiwanese starter Chien-Ming Wang wasn't so fortunate. He retired the first batter in the Orioles half of the first, but gave up consecutive doubles to Adam Jones, Nick Markakis and Aubrey Huff for two runs. The Orioles might have gotten a third run in the inning, but Huff inexplicably broke for third base while Wang was starting his motion and Wang was able to react in time to throw him out easily at third.

The baserunning mistake was magnified when Melvin Mora followed with the fourth hit of the inning.
